Build Diary
June 2007
5th June
Fitted the engine into the craddle. Maybe for the last time (I
guess not). Fitted clutch, and gearchange bits. Had a check of
the spark-plugs. A bit of carbon but all the same. Cleaned
up easily. Maybe the engine is going to work nicely?
12th June
Met up with some Oxfordshire Locosters at the Newbridge Arms.
Nice little petrol head gathering and made me feel less isolated
as some were quite local.
Thanks Dan (scutter) for the Sierra handbrake lever.
13th June
Managed to get down to my dads leaving after the kids were in bed.
Tried tank for size. IT FITS. So a Fury tank fits in a
Phoenix with no modifications. It looks lovely. I need to
get a 90deg on the bottom of the tank (for some reason I ordered a
straight by accident). I need to make up some brackets to hold it
all in, and I need some foam to insulate it from the metal (SVA and all
that). I have the measurements so I can progress this from home.

Removed steering rack. I need to get the alloy mounts to fit to it better, which is a job for the shed.
Removed rocker arms. I need to trim the inner tube down so it is
0.5mm longer than the plastic bushes (presently they are way too long).
Also plan to fit a couple of grease nipples to allow lubrication
of this (a Collingridge idea) these will need to be on the underside
otherwise they will clash with the chassis!
Stripped down a driveshaft and inserted end bits into the diff and hub
respectively. Measured up between yolks, as described to me by
Mel Coppock (Raw). Plan to get some driveshafts made-up. I
thought I could get these second-hand off someone on the Sylva group who is going LSD, but that
communication has gone quiet, so I might as well do it properly.
Looked at the handbrake cable. Long is not the word! it is
ridiculous. I saw some solutions at Stoneleigh, but none were
particularly elegant. I wonder if it can be trimmed down?
Need to look around for clues.
